A creative person is not just someone who draws cute cats or writes poems at night. It’s a special type of personality whose head is packed with more ideas than socks in a drawer.
Want to find out who a creative person is, what their traits are, and what psychology and philosophy say about them? Grab a cup of white tea — I’m sharing my insights.
I’m a creative person. So what?
I realized I was a creative person only at the age of 30. A bit late, you say? Oh come on. Better late than… totally boring, right?
Imagine if every kid in school suddenly embraced their creative nature — what chaos! Everyone’s in rows, and I’m like: maybe I’d rather sit on the floor with a marker and draw a universe inside the multiplication table.
And seriously, who decided creativity was about age? For some, it wakes up at five, for others — at thirty. The point is, it woke up. Otherwise you’ll sit there thinking: “Maybe I’m not a creative person? Maybe I just need to get a cat and stop overthinking?”
What does it mean to be a creative person?
A creative person is someone who can (and wants to!) create something new. Something that didn’t exist before. Not copy, not redo someone else’s idea, not “per brief”, but to just invent it. A painting, an idea, a theory, a concept, a video, a song, a character, a roleplay, a meme.
A creative person isn’t a profession. It’s a way of seeing the world.
They can be anyone: a blogger, a teacher, a florist, a programmer, even an accountant (if they figure out how to turn an Excel spreadsheet into a comic — that’s creativity too!).
How is creativity different from everything else?
Creativity is the act of making something new, independent, and unique. For example:
- coming up with an unusual plot — creative
- drawing your mood — creative
- filming a sketch about a talking fridge — also creative
But criticism? That’s not creativity. It depends on what was already made. No creative person — nothing to criticize.
A creative person is someone who wants to and can engage in creative activity.
Traits of a creative person
So, who are these creative folks? What kind of human sits around inventing and imagining things? Drawing, writing, singing, thinking.
Here’s a list of top traits that help spot a creative personality:
- Sensitivity. You feel everything 200%. One word — and boom, full script in your head.
- Independent thinking. You don’t wait for permission to begin.
- Unstoppable imagination. You can create a whole universe from a teabag.
- You don’t fit into boxes. Not because you break rules — you just don’t notice them.
- You can’t not create something. Even if you say “enough”, your brain still invents stuff.
Even if you’re only directing films in your head for now — it’s already a symptom!
These traits are present in 99% of creative people simply because of the nature of creativity itself — it’s born on the edge of feelings, the subconscious, and emotion. Independence and inner freedom, the ability to peek beyond normal, to pull out your weirdness and let fantasy swim freely — all of this is necessary fuel for the creative process.
What does psychology say about creative people?
According to psychologists, creative people often:
- have increased alpha brain wave activity (linked to relaxed, free-form thinking)
- can switch between logic and intuition
- are inclined toward introspection and meaning-making
- experience “flow” — a state where time disappears while creating
A Harvard study showed: creative individuals often feel “extra sensitive to the world”. It’s tough, but they’re the ones who make the art that helps others survive.
Philosophy and creativity
✦ Plato
Believed creativity was divine inspiration. A true artist “channels” ideas through themselves.
✦ Aristotle
Saw creativity as a way of seeking truth — through symbols, metaphors, and imagery.
✦ Nietzsche
Viewed creativity as power — a way to declare yourself and break boundaries.
✦ Sartre
Said that humans create themselves through creativity. We’re not just “existing” — we’re what we make.
So if you’re writing, drawing, singing or inventing — you’re not just goofing off. You’re doing life philosophy, in the fun version.
Are you a creative person?
If you’re reading this and thinking: “Could I be one too?” — then yes, you probably already are a creative soul, just haven’t started acting on it yet.
A creative person doesn’t have to be an artist. It could be a grandma making jam recipes and writing cucumber poems.

What if you’re creative but scared?
- Don’t wait to “feel ready”. That moment never comes. Start now.
- Don’t compare. Everyone has their own style, pace, and flavor of weird.
- Don’t suppress your strangeness. That’s your superpower.
- Don’t think creativity is “just a hobby”. It can be your purpose, job, therapy, game — anything.
Why the world needs creative people
- They see what others miss
- They invent solutions, visuals, meanings
- They move culture and the world forward
- They create the ideas that lead to products, films, theories, memes, and technologies
Without creative people, life would be dull, gray, and strictly by the manual.
A creative person is not some chosen genius — it’s anyone who feels the urge to create from within. Could be a quiet student, a mom of three, an accountant, a coder — or you.
If you want to create — congrats, you already are a creative person.
So stop waiting for talent or inspiration.
Creativity isn’t a gift. It’s an action. Do it.
